Risk to dental staff is usually presented in the form of airborne particles created during aerosol generating procedures and by using high-speed equipment. It is essential to capture these particles at source before they move around and settle elsewhere within the dental office. Using a direct capture device reduces the chance of mists or aerosols reaching breathing zones or landing on surfaces, increasing contamination risk.

The addition of UVc technology enables calculated exposure to damage the genetic material inside of microbes and so further reduce the risks. UV technology is increasingly becoming a popular method to sanitise the air, surfaces and equipment in healthcare environments as UV light kills pathogens such as viruses and bacteria. UVc is proven to be the most efficient wavelength to disinfect 2 and reduce cross-contamination.

To be used in conjunction with best hygiene practices and protective clothing, BOFA’s DentalPRO UVc has been designed specifically for use during aerosol generating procedures. It draws exhaled air directly from the patient and passes it through two high specification filters. There’s no need to vent outside as the filtered air is sent back into the room.

It has two operating settings, and the foot pedal makes it convenient for dental staff to adjust the airflow to suit the procedure. The enclosed UVc light is directed at the main filter and stays working while ever the system is switched on to allow maximum contact time and breakdown.
